We want everyone to get the most out of this community, so we ask that you please read and follow these guidelines:
No disrespect. Because no one is perfect or knowledgeable about everything, you may unintentionally say something harmful. If/when you are called in about it, accept the correction humbly and ask questions. Purposeful and/or consistent harm will not be tolerated.
We ask that you engage voluntarily and with an open and curious mind. If there is a topic that makes you uncomfortable, use that discomfort as a vehicle for curiosity.
Ask questions to learn! Feel free to reach out to us privately if you more comfortable doing that.
Disagreements and differences of opinions are welcomed, as long as they are expressed respectfully. People may accept disagreements; they do not have to accept disrespect.
Correct people respectfully. Call in vs call out.
Ask yourself: are your words intended to harm or educate? Are you making a judgment or an observation? Are you a member of the group in discussion? If not, open your heart and mind to listen to understand. Everyone's experiences differ and only we can tell our own stories best.
Assume best intent. Assume that we all know nothing. We are all here to grow and learn. Some people's frames of references and knowledge are not the same as your own.
Uplift the voices of those who come from historically marginalized groups.
Understand, no one is *obligated* to educate you beyond what they are willing and capable of doing, but it is kind if they take time out to do so.
Being part of a marginalized group is exhausting and frustrating. Be kind. Be understanding. Do not be the tone police. Anger is welcomed here. It is a vehicle for change.
